Despite the emergence of civil rights movements during the 1950’s and outlawing certain forms of discrimination, it still exists and is heavily prevalent in society. Discrimination exists in all shapes and forms and impacts people at a very young age. In Discrimination in Childhood and Adolescence: A Developmental Intergroup Approach, Christia Spears Brown targets discrimination among children and adolescents, and the harmful impact discrimination has on them as individuals and as groups of people. Brown seeks to inform her audience about these topics by collecting and elaborating on research done by herself and others. With valuable data and theory, Brown is able to explain the dangers surrounding adolescents who experience discrimination and the impact it has on their developmental health.
