Chloorhexidine en verkleuring: tot elkaar veroordeeld?

Samenvatting

Verkleuring van gebitselementen en mucosa bij gebruik van chloorhexidine is een ongewenste bijwerking. Om verkleuring tegen te gaan is er aan chloorhexidine een antiverkleuringssysteem (ADS) toegevoegd. Onderzoek heeft aangetoond dat deze formulering verkleuring reduceert. In een recent experimenteel gingivitisonderzoek laten de auteurs zien dat chloorhexidine met ADS (Curasept ADS 212) minder verkleuring geeft dan de positieve controle (chloorhexidine zonder ADS), maar dat de antiplaque- en de antigingivitiswerking door de toevoeging van het ADS significant is gereduceerd. De chloorhexidine met ADS werkte klinisch niet beter dan de placebo (water).
