Abstract
Why is there a world and why does it have the form it does? These questions seem perfectly legitimate, considering that the world need neither have existed, nor, given that it does, have assumed the broad form it has done. More than legitimate, these questions seem important. They seem to be questions for which anyone with any inkling of curiosity about the world would want answers, if answers were at all possible.
