Abstract
Positive psychology encourages psychologists to focus research efforts on the prevention of disease, the development of strengths, and virtues that lead to optimal human functioning (Pedrotti JT, Edwards LM, The intersection of positive psychology and multiculturalism in counseling. In: Ponterotto JG, Casas JM, Suzuki LA, Alexander CM (eds) The handbook of multicultural counseling, 3rd edn. Sage, Thousand Oaks, 2010; Sandage SJ, Hill PC, Vang HC, Couns Psychol 31(5):564–591. doi:10.1177/001100000325650, 2003). The joining of strengths, virtues and multiculturalism “is both logical and necessary” (p. 166) as multiculturalism becomes a strength in and of itself (Pedrotti JT, Edwards LM, The intersection of positive psychology and multiculturalism in counseling. In: Ponterotto JG, Casas JM, Suzuki LA, Alexander CM (eds) The handbook of multicultural counseling, 3rd edn. Sage, Thousand Oaks, 2010). Although the combination of strengths, virtues and multiculturalism is logical, it is also important to consider variance in cross-cultural applications and definitions of positive psychology constructs and subsequent measurements of these constructs.
