Abstract
In some testing situations it is necessary to convert or relate test scores obtained on one test to those obtained on another. The need for such “equating” typically arises in the following two situations:

The tests are at comparable levels of difficulty and the ability distributions of the examinees taking the tests are similar;

2.
The tests are at different levels of difficulty and the ability distributions of the examinees are different.
Equating in the above situations are termed horizontal and vertical equating, respectively.
