Abstract

Many kinds of treatment are so stressful or risky that the patients ask whether the treatment or cure is worse than the disease. What these patients want to know is what is better or worse for the quality of their lives, not just for their health. Potent forms of therapy with severe side-effects have made it obvious that for most people it is more important how their lives are than how their diseases are.
