Abstract
Up to now, it has been assumed tacitly that at most one outlier was present in the sample. Under the contamination model, if the expected number of outliers in the sample, np, is small, this model may be perfectly reasonable as a first approximation. However, it must be realized that most practical problems may have several outliers, and one should, as a matter of course, use test procedures that are effective with multiple outliers.
