Abstract
The general procedure for testing for outliers in a continuous distribution with unknown parameters is: find a suitable (e.g. complete sufficient) statistic T for the parameters, and then find a suitable outlier test statistic h(X, T) whose distribution does not depend on the unknown parameters.
