Measurement of health-related quality of life in asthma and chronic obstructive airways disease

  • Chapter
Quality of Life Assessment: Key Issues in the 1990s

Abstract

This review will concentrate on the measurement of health-related ‘quality of life’ in diseases of the airways — asthma and chronic obstructive airways disease. These are numerically by far the largest group of non-malignant lung diseases, 4% of the popUlation have asthma. Aspects of questionnaire design that are pertinent to airways disease will be covered, particularly where these may be important to users of the questionnaires. However the review will concentrate chiefly on the validation and application of existing questionnaires to diseases of the airways.
