Abstract
A patient with a cardiac pacemaker is condemned for life to attend a pacemaker clinic for follow-up. One of the main objectives for follow-up is to anticipate impending pacemaker system failure before there is risk to the patient. Battery depletion impairs pacemaker function and is still the main reason for surgical intervention.1 Beginning or actual failure of systems must be ascertained in the clinic and the necessary steps taken to remedy the situation.
