Abstract
Heart failure constitutes a growing problem. The number of patients presenting with pump failure continues to increase due to progressive aging of the population and prevention of premature death by improved medical and nonpharmacological treatment, particularly of coronary artery disease, hypertension, valvular heart disease, and malignant ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
