Personality Variables in Antisocial and Prosocial Disinhibitory Behavior

Biological Contributions to Crime Causation

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASID,volume 40))

Abstract

Some personality dimensions, such as Extraversion, Impulsivity,Psychoticism and Sensation Seeking (as assessed by the method of Eysenck & Zuckerman), share as a common feature their relationship to disinhibitory or risk-taking behavior. Individuals scoring highly on these dimensions aregenerally capable of behavior which implies high risk or is considered outside established norms. In contrast, most other people have simply thought it over and do not feel they need to carry out such risky behavior.
