Abstract

The prominent or deep glanular groove variety of distal hypospadias associated with megameatus is often hidden by an intact prepuce; a large number of children have been circumcised due to the apparently normal appearance of the prepuce and surgical options may then be limited due to the circumcision. The megameatus and intact prepuce variant of anterior hypospadias was described by Duckett and Keating in 1989 and is characterised as a subcoronal wide-mouth meatus with deep glanular groove associated with normal prepuce and no chordee. It was thought possibly to be due to maldevelopment of the glanular epithelial infolding and misdirected correcting of the glans proceeding down the already fused distal urethra, creating a megaurethra and keeping the foreskin intact (Duckett and Keating 1989).
