Zusammenfassung

Psychotherapy research has a long history, ranging from qualitative descriptions of its processes, to clinical trials, to more recent analyses of symptoms and processes in individual time course data. As Goldfried (2018) laments, however, this research has been conducted for over a century and there is still no clear consensus on the core principles of therapeutic change. A number of barriers have slowed progress, including an overemphasis on treatment outcomes, theoretical orientations, and specific treatments and diagnoses.
