Zusammenfassung
Self-organization is a popular metaphor in science and philosophy. But what does self-organization mean mathematically? A rigorous definition is given by the theory of nonlinear dynamical systems. In his Synergetics, Haken used order parameters to explain self-organization by phase transitions of complex dynamical systems at unstable states.
