Zusammenfassung
Der historische Soziologe Peter Bearman untersucht in seiner 1993 erschienenen explorativen Studie » Relations into Rhetorics « am Beispiel der Grafschaft Norfolk den Wandel der Strukturen von lokalen Eliten im England des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts. Das Buch ist eine Überarbeitung seiner 1985 zum gleichen Thema abgeschlossenen Dissertation. Bearman legte mit dieser Arbeit einen der ersten Versuche aus dem sozialwissenschaftlichen Bereich vor, auf Basis von historischen Daten eine formale Analyse sozialer Netzwerke durchzuführen. Im Bereich der historischen Netzwerkforschung hat die Arbeit somit gleichauf mit der deutlich stärker rezipierten Studie von John Padgett und Christopher Ansell zum Aufstieg der Medici (Padgett und Ansell → 1993) einen Pioniercharakter inne.
