Abstract

A wide variety of skin diseases are caused by viruses. Cutaneous lesions may either reflect a direct skin infection by an epidermotropic virus, such as in molluscum contagiosum or Verrucae, or may be a reflection of a widespread viral infection, such as in measles or chicken pox. Finally, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes an almost endless list of skin findings primarily through the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
