Dermatology

Abstract

A wide variety of unrelated diseases are included in this chapter. In the past, some have been called dermatitis and others, eczema. For the sake of uniformity we will only employ the term dermatitis; this is a radical change from the German version of this book in which dermatitis is used for acute disorders with a tendency toward spontaneous resolution and eczema for chronic diseases with little tendency to resolution. As a partial recognition of the European roots of this text, the term eczema is used in the synonyms. The derivations of the words do not help us much.
