Basic Science and Principles of Dermatologic Diagnosis

  • Chapter
Dermatology

Abstract

In contrast to other dermatology textbooks, we have not devoted a single chapter to the embryology, anatomy and physiology of the skin. Since this text is conceived as a clinical text, basic science information is placed with the clinically related diseases. For example, the anatomy and physiology of the sebaceous glands is considered along with acne. Here we will briefly review the fundamental aspects of skin structure and function, with many cross-references to the chapters where topics are expanded upon.
