Is Coping with Life Stresses Enhanced by Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs?

Psychological Approach to the Rehabilitation of Coronary Patients

Abstract

Prior studies by Holmes and Rahe (1) have demonstrated a relationship between the magnitude of life changes or crises and the time of occurence of various types of illnesses in several population samples (2). “Life crisis” is defined as a clustering of life changes whose individual scores total 150 or more life change units (LCU) in one year. These units reveal the life style of the individual and the events that involve him in social transactions pertaining to family, marriage, occupation, residence, education, religion, recreation, health and economics.
