Zusammenfassung
Von Leonardo da Vinci stammt die erste Zeichnung eines Vorhofseptumdefektes bei einem Leichnam; von Rokitansky [25] gab die erste komplette pathologisch-anatomische Beschreibung. Doch dauerte es bis Anfang der 40er Jahre, bis man den Vorhofseptumdefekt klinisch zu diagnostizieren lernte. Mit der im folgenden Jahrzehnt einsetzenden Verbreitung der Herzkatheterisierung konnte die Diagnose auf sichere Füße gestellt und ab 1953 der offenen Herzchirurgie an der Herz-Lungen-Maschine zugeführt werden. Rashkind und Cuaso berichteten (nach Vorgängern) 1977 über einen transvaskulären Defektverschluß, der nach vielen Modifikationen in den letzten Jahren klinische Bedeutung erlangte [23].
