Zusammenfassung
Wenn man sich mit off enen Fragen im Zusammenhang mit Autismus-Spektrum-Störungen beschäft igt, insbesondere mit dem Asperger- Syndrom, so besteht die Gefahr, dass man sich im Kreise dreht. Denn alles hängt mit allem irgendwie zusammen. Unterschiedliche Definitionen der Störungen führen naturgemäß häufig zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen, über die man dann streiten kann. Kleine Stichproben im klinischen Bereich führen zu Ergebnissen, die nicht repräsentativ sind und folglich für die Bevölkerung nicht gelten. Hat man charakteristische Befunde für eine Störung ermittelt, so ergibt sich die Frage, wie spezifisch sie für diese Störung sind und ob sie nicht auch bei anderen Störungen desselben Spektrums vorkommen oder auch ganz außerhalb derselben. Dies gilt z. B. für die Theory of Mind, die beim Autismus und Asperger- Syndrom bedeutsam ist, aber auch (wenngleich im geringeren Ausmaß) auch bei schizophrenen Patienten (Corcoran 2000).
