Zusammenfassung
Unter den Klinikern und Forschern, die sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten mit dem Asperger-Syndrom beschäft igt haben, herrscht inzwischen Einigkeit darüber, dass es sich bei dieser Störung um eine tiefgreifende Entwicklungsstörunghandelt, die sich nicht durch eineUrsache erklären lässt, sondern einen mehrdimensionalen Hintergrund hat. Die Datenlage ist allerdings im Hinblick auf das Asperger-Syndrom weitaus spärlicher als beim frühkindlichen Autismus. Dies mag daran liegen, dass die Störung, trotz vorangehender Publikationen in englischer Sprache (z. B. Krevelen 1963, 1971) erst 1981 durch die Arbeit von Lorna Wing international zur Kenntnis genommen wurde und erst in den Jahren 1992 und 1994 in die gängigen Klassifi kationssysteme ICD-10 und DSM-IV Eingang gefunden hat.
