Abstract

In this chapter, we describe a brief overview of work involving virtual (VR), augmented (AR), and mixed (MR) reality with autistic people. For the purposes of this work and using our technology platform classification scheme, this chapter includes only VR, AR, and MR applications, eventually focusing on those that use head-mounted displays, often called visors, viewers, or headsets. Examples of viewers available at the time of writing are Google Cardboard and Daydream, Samsung Gear, Facebook Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Sony PlayStation VR, Microsoft Hololens, andMagic Leap.17
