Fathers’ Reflections of their Fathers: The Use of Text Mining to Find Meaning in Narratives

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Handbook of Fathers and Child Development

Abstract

There is a growing research literature examining the father-child relationship. Most of these studies have focused on how fathers influence the lives of their children. However, little research has examined how becoming a father might have a positive impact on men. The book chapter will explore how men perceive becoming a father has affected their lives. More importantly, this chapter will explore how children influence fathers in low-income communities. The chapter introduces text mining as an approach to the study of father narratives in the context of intergenerational fathering. The results of this study will shed light on this life-changing event from the stories of men and their experiences.
