Abstract
African Americans, the second largest ethnocultural group after Hispanics in the US, are largely the descendants of Africans who were forcibly brought to this country as slaves between 1619 and 1860. A significant cultural divide may separate this group from recent immigrants from Africa and other countries. However, the U.S. Census Bureau includes all Blacks together.
