Abstract
This chapter will be concerned primarily with the relationships between emotions and drives. The drive concept will be illustrated mainly by the commonly experienced but complex phenomenon of pain and the equally complex but highly pleasurable experiences associated with sexual intercourse. The chapter will also discuss emotion-drive interactions, particularly the interactions of emotions with pain and with the sex drive.
