Abstract

This book is a festschrift, a collection of scholarly essays by colleagues honoring Herbert C. Quay upon the occasion of his retirement. A related symposium was presented at the 1992 meeting of the Society for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychopathology in Sarasota, Florida. Anyone who knows Herbert Quay knows his preference for a task-oriented, quantitative, empirical approach to his field. Thus he would doubtless prefer a volume such as this to focus upon research issues rather than upon his own accomplishments as such, or his professional biography. Yet, I believe it is essential in a volume such as this to convey some impression of the individual we are honoring and of his contributions. So I am going to go ahead and try to do so, even if it embarrasses him. In fact, it is my job here to embarrass him.
