Abstract

Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) may be more common than previously suspected. More and more cases are being discovered through the increased use of multichannel biochemical screening as part of the general medical examination. Boonstra and Jackson [10] found proved HPT in 1 of every 834 patients (0.12 percent) when serum calcium was routinely measured in all ambulatory patients admitted to their institution.
