Abstract

The “sexual revolution” which American society is experiencing has not only resulted in more liberal sexual attitudes and behaviors but also in more open discussion and concern about sexual disorders. It is increasingly acceptable in recent years to acknowledge disorders that inhibit or disrupt enjoyment of new sexual freedoms. Behavioral researchers and clinicians have been foremost in developing approaches for successful treatment of sexual disorders and thus in popularizing sex research (Kaplan, 1974; Lobitz & LoPiccolo, 1972; Masters & Johnson, 1970; Obler, 1973).
