Abstract
Hormones have been implicated in the facilitation or maintenance of maternal—infant interactions in studies of animals (see Chapters 1, 3, & 6, this volume) and of humans (see Chapter 12, this volume). However, physiological studies of attachment behavior have been less concerned with the process of attachment than with disruptions in attachment; that is, separations between mothers and infants.
