A Biologic Rhythm in Waking Fantasy

  • Chapter
The Stream of Consciousness

Part of the book series: Emotions, Personality, and Psychotherapy ((EPPS))

Abstract

One of Freud’s early ideas was that the mental processes made vivid in dreaming have an influence on everyday waking thoughts and behavior. A problem with this concept has been the difficulty in measuring and confirming the action of any psychic agencies that Freud postulated, such as the unconscious, the libido, or the id.

Mr. Sam Messin and Mr. Grant Wyborney participated in this study, which was partially supported by the Medical Research Service of the Veterans Administration and by Grant No. 1-KO2-MH00117-01 from the National Institute of Mental Health.
