Abstract
This group of uncommon but complex distal radius fractures is characterized principally by the presence of a complete dislocation of the radiocarpal joint. The dislocation may be in either a dorsal or a palmar direction, with the distal radius fracture(s) involving the marginal cortical rims, the radial styloid, or both. It is commonplace also to find a fracture of the ulnar styloid (Fig. 8.1).
The fracture may be transverse or oblique, and at a distance of six lines, an inch, or an inch and a half from the articulating extremity of the bone: but the nearer the fracture is to the joint, the more closely does the consecutive displacement resemble an active dislocation.
