Functional Organization of PAG Neurons Controlling Regional Vascular Beds

  • Chapter
The Midbrain Periaqueductal Gray Matter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 213))

Abstract

There are recent physiological and anatomical findings which indicate the existence of regional differences within the PAG. These regional differences reflect some degree of functional organization within the PAG. The aim of this chapter is to present certain of these new findings which are related to cardiovascular control and to propose a model of functional organization for PAG control of the circulation. It is hoped that this model will help to understand the organization of other functions represented in the PAG.
