Abstract
The Preventive Intervention Project is a longitudinal study that works with families to prevent difficulties in children from homes where parental affective illness is present. The primary aim of our project is the prevention of childhood disorder through the promotion of resilient traits and the modification of risk factors associated with parental affective illness (e.g., poor marital communication, dysfunctional parenting practices, a lack of focus on the children, and confusion and misunderstanding in families). In this chapter, the theoretical constructs and the content of the individual sessions of the clinician-facilitated intervention are described.
