Multiple Problem Youth

Part of the book series: Research in Criminology ((RESEARCH CRIM.))

Abstract

The National Youth Survey sample is drawn from seven cohorts, aged 11–17 in the first year of data collection (1976) and aged 18–24 in the most recent year for which data are presently available. The oldest cohort was born in 1959, near the peak of the postwar baby boom; the youngest was born in 1965, a year in which total fertility rates had declined back to their 1946 levels (Easterlin, 1987), thereby marking the end of the baby boom. Table 4.1 presents age and cohort statistics for the National Youth Survey’s seven cohorts.
