Abstract

The word autism describes a constellation of behavioral attributes that are really quite diverse. In fact, the borders are so obscure that no one can be sure where the center is. Beyond the definitions that are given for the syndrome, there is little one can say for autism as an homogeneous or a biologically meaningful disorder. One can speak, and some people do, about the “medical treatment” of autistic people, but that has not been an intelligent approach to the problem.
