Abstract
The apparent physical symmetry of the human body has led scientists, philosophers, and researchers to puzzle over and theorize about the mechanisms that give rise to the functional asymmetries seen in the common displays of handedness and the other lateral preferences. For centuries investigators have postulated various asymmetrical developmental processes and structures that could induce functional inequalities in a seemingly symmetrical organism.
