Abstract
The structure of solids can be studied by using various instruments. The optical microscope was first used by Sorby in 1863 for studying the microstructure of carefully polished and acid-etched wrought iron.(1)The grains can be observed due to the imperfection of atomic packing at the grain boundaries (Figure 3-l).(2)
