An Overview of Multivariate Models and Methods

Abstract

Statistical procedures are tools that researchers use to help them understand their data and to decide what hypotheses are most consistent with the data. Multivariate statistical techniques are relatively complicated tools. Knowing when to use the tools, to apply them appropriately, and to understand how they affect the results that appear in a solution requires sophisticated training. Multivariate statistical procedures can be exceedingly useful: however, their misuse can produce distorted results, distortions that may not be apparent to the researcher who has an insufficient understanding of the procedures.

Statistics is neither an art nor a science, but a dodge.
