Abstract
Three indicators were used to assess the latent construct of Parent Depression, all based on parent self-report. The CES-D questionnaire (Radloff, 1977), which was completed at the interview, assessed depressed mood in the past week. Two versions of the Adjective Checklist (Lubin, 1963) assessed mood at that time and were completed at observations. The third indicator, which was a single question to the mother during the telephone interview (administered six times), assessed depressed mood for the past 3 days.
