Abstract
This chapter offers a general summary and perspective on measures of alcohol consumption. In it, we address five issues:

Differences between verbal and biochemical techniques to assess alcohol consumption,

Features that are desirable in measures of consumption,

3.
Comparisons of specific techniques according to these standards,

4.
Possible strategies for measuring consumption in various settings, and

5.
Needs for further research.
