Abstract
A well thought-out prescription for custom foot orthoses (CFO) that takes into consideration the dysfunction of that particular athlete’s foot and the activity of the athlete is a pre-requisite to a successful clinical outcome. Addressing the specific needs of the pathology producing the dysfunction as well as the symptoms the athlete is experiencing makes the difference between treatment success or failure and patient satisfaction or frustration. Dispensing the same orthosis for posterior tibial dysfunction and plantar fasciitis will not produce the same successful outcomes for both because these are different pathologies with different functional needs and different mechanical origins.
