6. Conclusion
This book represents the most comprehensive collection of information available on the behavioral approach to the assessment and treatment of tic disorders, trichotillomania, and other repetitive behavior disorders. As you read the book, you will notice we addressed a variety of audiences including researchers, practicing clinicians, and persons or parents of persons with the disorders. For example, the treatment manuals should be valuable as a guide for clinicians, but may also be of interest to researchers engaged in treatment outcome studies or individuals with the disorders who may wish to become better-educated consumers.
We realize that this book is only a start. New research is being conducted that will lead to better understanding of, and more effective treatments for, these disorders. However, behavioral technology has something to offer now, and there is no good reason to keep persons with these disorders waiting. Let’s begin.
