Abstract
Although the earliest descriptions of brain injuries date back to the ancient Egyptians (1700 B.C.) where 27 cases of head trauma are recorded in The Edwin Smith Surgical Papyrus, the neuropsychiatric concept that behavioral sequelae can result from brain injury was not understood, as this culture believed that the heart was the seat of emotion and thinking (Finger, 2000).
