Case Report. Progressie van meningeoom gedurende hormoontherapie bij prostaatcarcinoom

Samenvatting

Een 62-jarige man bekend met een meningeoom in situ wordt vanwege een lokaal uitgebreid prostaatcarcinoom behandeld met een luteïniserend hormoon-‘releasing’ hormoon (LHRH) agonist. Gedurende deze behandeling toont het meningeoom progressie. Er is een vermoeden dat hormonen een rol spelen bij de ontwikkeling en groei van meningeomen. Bij meningeomen zijn zowel LHRH-receptoren, als oestrogeen- en progesteronpositieve receptoren aangetoond. In deze casus kan een causaal verband tussen behandeling en progressie niet worden uitgesloten. De combinatie van prostaatcarcinoom en meningeoom is zeldzaam. Het is echter van groot belang bij het gebruik van hormoontherapie bedacht te zijn op meningeomen, omdat deze behandeling de groei van meningeomen positief kan beïnvloeden.
