I reluctantly accepted the offer to review what at first glance appeared to be another book on anxiety disorders. I am glad that I did, though it took awhile longer to read than I had anticipated. The reason is quite simple. It became clear to me that Dr. Daitch painstakingly delved into the subject of anxiety disorders at great lengths to ensure that this topic was adequately covered not only for the convenience of the layman but also for the practicing clinician in the mental health profession. This book is a rich compendium of research and statistical data, evidenced-based strategies/techniques, and sampled vignettes. At the beginning of chapters 5 through 9 as the author explored in detail each of the various anxiety disorders, she sensibly offered a portrayal of clients with a disorder, followed by a detailed account of treatment options ending with a recovery story as a result. By doing so, the reader is left with a thorough understanding of diagnostic criteria and what is needed to treat a particular client, but at the same time the reader is instilled with the notion of hope that recovery is in fact enduring over time. …
