Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk wordt ingegaan op de verschillende aspecten van het toepassen van evidence bij de individuele patiënt. Daarbij komen kwalitatieve en kwantitatieve aspecten aan bod, samen met de voorkeuren van de patiënt in het licht van de voor- en nadelen van interventies. Het meeste theoretische en empirische werk op dit terrein heeft betrekking op het toepassen van evidence rond medicamenteuze behandeling en therapeutische ingrepen. Dit denkkader kan echter ook worden gebruikt bij het toepassen van evidence rond diagnostische interventies, bij uitspraken over de prognose (zonder behandeling) en bij het denken over de kans op bijwerkingen.
