Samenvatting

De pathogenese voor iedere vorm van bewegingsziekte is gelijk. Er bestaan verschillende hypothesen waarom iemand bewegingsziek wordt. Twee vaak genoemde hypothesen zijn die van het sensorisch conflict en de toxinedetectorhypothese.
Nagenoeg iedereen kan bewegingsziek worden. Dit is onder andere afhankelijk van de duur, intensiteit, frequentie en veranderingen van richting, maar er bestaat een grote individuele spreiding. De symptomen zijn gemakkelijk te herkennen en verlopen van een gevoel van onbehagen in de maagstreek tot aan apathie en braken. Zeeziekte is de oudste en meest voorkomende vorm van bewegingsziekte. De veelal preventieve behandeling van bewegingsziekte bestaat uit zowel medicamenteuze als niet-medicamenteuze ingrepen. Voor het voorschrijven van een middel bestaat geen gouden regel. Niet iedereen reageert even goed op een voorgeschreven middel; een ander middel zou in dat geval wellicht uitkomst bieden.
