Samenvatting

Beweging, ook wel fysieke activiteit genoemd, is een overkoepelend begrip dat zowel geplande en gestructureerde trainingen als alle andere lichamelijke activiteiten omvat. Wetenschappelijk onderzoek heeft vele positieve effecten van beweging aangetoond op risicofactoren voor chronische aandoeningen en op ziektespecifieke uitkomsten. Vanwege deze belangrijke effecten speelt beweging een essentiële rol in zowel de preventie als de behandeling van veelvoorkomende chronische aandoeningen. Ondanks het wetenschappelijke bewijs en de aanbevelingen van zowel beweegrichtlijnen als ziektespecifieke richtlijnen, bewegen de meeste mensen, en met name ouderen, te weinig. Hierin kunnen ook wij als zorgverleners iets betekenen. Daarom biedt dit hoofdstuk niet alleen een overzicht van de effecten van beweging en aanbevelingen volgens de huidige richtlijnen, maar ook handvatten voor zorgverleners om patiënten in beweging te krijgen. Ten slotte benadrukken we het belang van een goede organisatie van bewegingszorg.
